
Mr. Mxolisi Dukwana

Profile of MEC
The Honourable MEC of Public Safety, Security and
Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Dukwana, was born on 14
September 1964 in Odendaalsrus in the Free State
Province. He is the first child of Mr. Jackson and
Mrs. Sophie Dukwana.
After completing his teacher’s training course at
Mphohadi College, he taught at Rearabetswe Secondary
School at Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus from 1986-1993.
Mr. Dukwana played a leading role in the South
African Youth Congress (SAYCO) activities in the
1980s. In 1994, the first year of the new democratic
dispensation, he assumed the role of Commissioner
for the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP).
In 1996 he was appointed MEC for Education, a
post he held until 1998. This was followed by a year
as Chief Whip of the Majority Party in the Free
State Legislature.
From 1999 until 2003 he was the Deputy Speaker of
the Free State Legislature and since 2003 until he
was appointed MEC for Public Safety, Security and
Liaison in January this year he was the Speaker of
the Free State Provincial Legislature.
Mr. Mxolisi Dukwana was elected as the ANC
Provincial Treasurer in 2005.
