Objectives and Core functions
Civilian Oversight:
- To monitor police conduct;
- To oversee the effectiveness and
efficiency of the SAPS including
receipt of the reports on it;
- To monitor the implementation of
visible policing
The above is done through ensuring
SAPS transparency and accountability of
its service delivery, and the allocation
and redistribution of SAPS resources.
The measurable objectives of these
functions are:
- To monitor police conduct and
compliance with all legislation,
policies and regulations (physical
visits to police stations);
- Monitor the implementation of
visible policing in the Province
(especially Sector Policing);
- Monitoring the effective and
efficient functioning of all units in
SAPS dealing with women and children
(physical visits to Family Violence,
Child Protection and Sexual Offences
units);
- An annual community perception
survey has been developed and
outsourced to check the opinion that
communities have on SAPS service
delivery.
