Welcome to the Website of the Department of Public Safety, Security and Liaison!

Message by the MEC, Mr Mxolisi Dukwana
The Department of Public Safety, Security and Liaison in the Free State Province, continues to ensure that the SA Police Service cooperate with communities in strengthening crime combating initiatives.

We have come a long way since the days when the men and women in blue were called a “Police Force”. Now the emphasis is on service delivery to the communities where the police are stationed and not on ruling by fear. Now the SAPS wants to work together with communities in the prevention of crime and acknowledges the important role each community member can play in assisting our quest to root out crime.

One of our department’s key challenges is to make sure that Community Police Forums are fully functional. Only when people are involved en masse in CPF activities, an impenetrable network can be spun against the evil of crime. [more...]

What do we do?
  • Register and investigate all complaints against the SAPS.
  • Assist and guide Community Policing Forums (CPFs) in developing and managing sustainable Crime Prevention Projects.
  • Monitor and oversee the effectiveness of the SAPS in their service delivery.
  • Monitor and oversee the functioning of SAPS units dealing with women and children.
  • Develop community-specific projects to assist women, children, youths, the disabled and the elderly in dealing with crime and empower victims of crime.
